not plumbing.

We are a small team in Bengaluru building two platforms and running our own discovery programmes. What you build reaches real campaigns and peer reviewed papers, usually in months rather than years.

What you get
from working here.

Your work ships.

We build the platforms for our own research first and offer them to partners, so what you build reaches real campaigns, usually in months rather than years.

HR & Finance Generalist ConsultantPeople operations, payroll, performance tracking, bookkeeping and routine finance complianceRemotePart time · 16 hours a weekApply
Role details

What you will work onOwn all HR and finance matters for our small, growing team, end to end. This is hands-on execution, not pure advisory. Three items stay with our external CA: filing GST returns, the statutory audit and filing Professional Tax (PT) returns. For these, you prepare and share the data and documents the CA needs.

Key responsibilities

HR operations

  • End-to-end hiring: JD refresh, job posting, sourcing, screening, interview scheduling and offer letters
  • Onboarding, induction and offboarding, including full-and-final settlement
  • Employee records, personnel files and HR trackers
  • Draft and update HR policies, the employee handbook and SOPs
  • Day-to-day employee queries and first-level grievance handling
  • Statutory HR compliance: PF, ESI, POSH and applicable labour laws and Labour Codes
  • Employee engagement support and exit formalities

Payroll

  • Monthly payroll inputs: attendance, leave, new joiners, exits and deductions
  • Process payroll in-house or with the payroll vendor, and coordinate salary disbursement
  • Apply statutory deductions correctly: PF, ESI, TDS and PT
  • PF and ESI monthly payments and returns; TDS on salaries and Form 16 for employees
  • Payslips, payroll records and resolution of salary queries
  • Filing ITR for the employees

Performance management

  • Run the appraisal calendar: goal-setting, mid-year and annual reviews
  • Maintain KPI and KRA trackers for all employees
  • Follow up with managers and employees for timely feedback
  • Consolidate results into a simple summary for management

Finance and accounts

  • Maintain the books of accounts: day-to-day entries, expenses and petty cash
  • Accounts payable: vendor invoices, payment scheduling and vendor ledgers
  • Accounts receivable: raise customer invoices, track collections and follow up on dues
  • Monthly bank and ledger reconciliations
  • Employee reimbursements and office expense tracking
  • TDS on vendor and contractor payments: deduction, monthly payment, quarterly returns and Form 16A
  • Monthly MIS for the founder: expenses, cash position, receivables and payables
  • Keep an HR and finance compliance calendar so no due date is missed
  • Prepare and share data with the CA for GST returns, PT returns and the annual audit, and support audit queries
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Commerce, Business Administration or a related field
  • 3 to 5+ years in a combined HR and accounts role, or as an HR Generalist with hands-on bookkeeping (startup or SME preferred)
  • Hands-on payroll and Indian statutory compliance: PF, ESI, TDS (salary and vendor) and PT deductions
  • Hands-on bookkeeping: entries, payables, receivables and bank reconciliation
  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Works independently with minimal supervision, documents as you go, and keeps data confidential
Preferred
  • HRMS experience: Keka, GreytHR or Zoho People
  • Policy and handbook drafting
  • Exposure to Labour Codes and POSH implementation
  • Experience preparing monthly MIS and working with CAs on audits
Out of scope

These stay with our external CA; you only prepare and share the inputs. Also out of scope unless separately agreed: full-time recruitment agency work, litigation and strategic organisation design.

  • Filing GST returns
  • Statutory audit
  • Filing Professional Tax (PT) returns
Engagement
Independent consultant on a monthly retainer, 16 hours per week. Weekdays are flexible, aligned with the hiring, payroll and month-end closing calendars. Start immediately; notice of 15 days on either side.

Role details

What you will work onOwn the engineering of our technologies end to end, from the backend services that run scientific workflows to the web interfaces our users rely on. You will work closely with our scientists so that the technologies scale reliably and stay easy to use as datasets and workloads grow. See the two technologies together

Key responsibilities
  • Maintain, extend and improve the Python backends of SilicoXplore and OmicsXplore
  • Develop and enhance the web interfaces, building responsive, intuitive screens for job submission, results visualisation and data management
  • Design and integrate REST APIs that connect the frontend to backend services
  • Refactor existing code to improve readability, reliability and maintainability
  • Strengthen application security across the stack, including input validation, authentication and access control, dependency and secrets management, and safe handling of files and data
  • Profile and optimise performance-critical paths in screening, omics and data-processing workflows
  • Improve memory efficiency, I/O performance and job management for large datasets and long-running computations
  • Diagnose and fix defects, write automated tests, and maintain reproducible deployment and environment setups
  • Collaborate with the science team so that changes preserve the integrity of scientific workflows
  • Produce clear internal documentation for modules, APIs and setup procedures
Required
  • B.Tech or B.E. in Computer Science or a closely related discipline
  • 2 to 3 years of hands-on software development experience, primarily on the backend
  • Advanced proficiency in Python, including object-oriented design, modular code structure, error handling, testing (for example pytest) and clean, maintainable, well-documented code
  • Experience building REST APIs with a Python web framework such as FastAPI, Flask or Django
  • Hands-on frontend development experience with HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and at least one modern framework such as React, Angular or Vue
  • Proven experience improving and refactoring existing codebases, not only writing new code
  • Practical knowledge of application security, code optimisation and performance profiling
  • Working proficiency with Linux, Git and virtual environments
  • Strong written English and a sense of ownership over assigned modules
Preferred
  • Experience with scientific Python libraries (NumPy, Pandas, SciPy or similar) or workflow orchestration tools
  • Experience with data visualisation libraries (for example Plotly, D3.js, Chart.js) or molecular viewers
  • Familiarity with TypeScript, databases, containerisation (Docker) or CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with concurrency and parallel processing in Python (multiprocessing, async or task queues)
  • Interest in bioinformatics or computational drug discovery; domain training will be provided
